Gubana cake

ubana is a traditional cake from the Natisone Valleys. It gets its name from the Slovenian word “guba”, which means “fold”. A circular piece of sweet dough is left to rise, covered with a delicious filling made with raisins, pine nuts, walnuts, sugar, candied orange pieces, amaretto, honey and grappa, then rolled (or “folded”) up and baked in the oven. According to local traditions, gubana tastes best when it is “sprinkled” with Slivovitz plum brandy.
